When I first started working out I didn't really know what I was doing, I would just pick up a weight start going at it. But, that would quickly lead me to injury whether hurting my back from squatting or pulling my calf from sprints. It was a painful way to learn a lesson , but I would never recede. Those moments would teach me to be smart about how i workout and to always warm up. Either going for a light jog or stretching, maybe even both to secure that I do not hurt myself.
